  • 2019 MCAS Schedule

Posted by John Vosburgh on 1/14/2019

The link below will take you to the 2019 Adams-Cheshire Regional School District MCAS schedule.  It is very important that students are in attendance on these test dates.  If you anticipate any conflicts, please contact your school in order for your child to be placed in a make up session.  Should students be absent for illness on these days, they will automatically be scheduled to test on the make up dates.

  • Alternative Learning Days

Posted by John Vosburgh on 12/26/2018

The Adams-Cheshire Regional School District will be piloting the use of Alternative Learning Days in the 2018-19 school year in lieu of making up snow days in June.  The intent is to capitalize on the optimal learning time in the winter/spring, prior to high stakes testing, when students are more engaged in meaningful school work.  The link below will provide you with more information as well as frequently asked questions from other districts in Massachusetts who are currently implenting this concept.  I would like to thank the school districts at Gateway, Westfield, and Ralph Mahar Regional for their advice and support with our pilot.

This pilot will be implenteted pending a Memorandum of Agreement with the Adams-Cheshire Teachers Association.  No Alternative Learning Day will be called without notification to students and families well in advance of calling the day.

  • Hoosac Valley High School Football Banquet

Posted by John Vosburgh on 12/17/2018

This past Sunday I was honored to be a guest for the Western Mass Champion Hoosac Valley Football Team's end of the year banquet.  As I watched the festivities take place, I was completely taken back by the focus of the coaches and athletic director on the development of student-athletes into fine young men of great character.  Of course there was the mention of the successful season that brought home yet another Western Massachusetts Championship, but awards were presented for core values and characteristics that are developed both on and off the field. Coach Poirot and his coaching staff should be very proud of their accomplishments this year in every phase of their program!

  • Hoosac Definitely Has Talent!

Posted by John Vosburgh on 12/17/2018

This past Saturday night I had the pleasure of judging the annual Hoosac's Got Talent show.  Being a judge in this event, however, was quite difficult as each act demonstrated some amazing skills and talents.  I give a ton of credit to all the students who went up on stage to perform.  At that age, this is something I NEVER could have done.  While the winners certainly deserved their awards, each student should be extremely proud of their performance!!

Tiered Focused Monitoring Review

  • During the week of January 21, 2019 the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Office of Public School Monitoring (PSM) will conduct a Tiered Focused Monitoring Review of Adams-Cheshire Regional School District. The Office of Public School Monitoring visits each district and charter school every three years to monitor compliance with federal and state special education and civil rights regulations. Areas of review related to special education include student assessments, determination of eligibility, the Individualized Education Program (IEP) Team process, and IEP development and implementation. Areas of review related to civil rights include bullying, student discipline, physical restraint, and equal access to school programs for all students.

In addition to the onsite visit, parent outreach is an important part of the review process. The review chairperson from the Office of Public School Monitoring will send all parents of students with disabilities an online survey that focuses on key areas of their child’s special education program. Survey results will contribute to the development of a report. During the onsite review, the Office of Public School Monitoring will interview the chairperson(s) of the district’s Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC). Other onsite activities may include interviews of district staff and administrators, reviews of student records, and onsite observations.

Parents and other individuals may call Michelle Hennessy-Kowalchek Public School Monitoring Chairperson, at (781) 338- 3704 to request a telephone interview. If an individual requires an accommodation, such as translation, to participate in an interview, the Department will make the necessary arrangements.

Within approximately 60 business days after the onsite visit, the review chairperson will provide the district with a report with information about areas in which the district meets or exceeds regulatory requirements and areas in which the district requires assistance to correct or improve practices. The public will be able to access the report at www.doe.mass.edu/pqa/review/cpr/reports/.
